Metal carbonyl chemistry. Part VIII. Reaction of hydridopentacarbonylmanganese(I) with perfluorocyclopentadiene

Abstract

Reaction of hydridocarbonylmanganese(I) with perfluorocyclopentadiene at room temperature gives three crystalline 1:1 adducts: pentacarbonyl-σ-(trans-2H-hexafluorocyclopent-3-enyl) manganese by 1,2-addition, pentacarbonyl-σ-(4H-hexafluorocyclopent-1-enyl) manganese by 1,4-addition followed by a 1,3-fluorine shift, and pentacarbonyl-σ-(5H-hexafluorocyclopent-1-enyl) manganese by 1,2-addition followed by a 1,3-fluorine shift. A ketonic complex pentacarbonyl-σ-(4H-tetrafluorocycloent-1-en-3-only) manganese was also obtained in low yield. Reaction at –78° gives pentacarbonyl-σ-(4H-hexafluorocyclopent-2-enyl) manganese as a major product formed by 1,4-addition without rearrangement. These compounds were characterised by degradation and by spectroscopic methods.
