Collision parameters in the theory of diffusion-controlled reactions

Abstract

A new analysis of diffusion-controlled reaction kinetics has been made, in which the concepts of encounter radius a and reaction probability α have been defined and introduced in a manner consistent with the underlying random-walk model for molecular motion. The theoretical result is in agreement with experiment and the separate values of α and a derived therefrom appear reasonable. The variation of α and a with physical conditions may be studied by this means.
