Application of lattice theory equations to the surface tension of binary liquid mixtures

Abstract

Simplified lattice theory equations, which previously had been developed and applied to the surface tension of polymer solutions, have been tested for applicability to data from the literature for a variety of other binary mixtures. These equations account for the entropic effects of disparate molecular size via the Flory approximation, and introduce a single adjustable parameter to allow for energy effects. Agreement with data for mixtures of hydrocarbons, liquid metals, cryogenic liquids, or several other organic liquids is a good as, or better than, that obtained with other lattice theory equations.
