Epoxidation of 3β-acetoxy-5α-lanosta-7,9(11)-diene with m-chloroperbenzoic acid or monoperphthalic acid gives the Δ9(11)-7α,8α-epoxide, the Δ9(11)-7β,8β-epoxide, and the Δ7-9α,11α-epoxide. The compound, described in the literature as a Δ-(9)117ξ,8ξ-epoxide, is shown to be the Δ7-9α,11α-epoxide.
