Palladium sulphide is a specific catalyst for the cyclisation stage of the C5-cyclodehydrogenation of 3,3′,4,4′-tetrahydro-1,1′-binaphthyl (I) to benzo[j]fluoranthene (IV). The mode of action of the catalyst is discussed.
