Radical intermediates. Part II. E.s.r. studies on the alkali-metal nitrobenzenides in alcoholic and ethereal solutions

Abstract

Alkali-metal derivatives of the nitrobenzene radical anion have been prepared as stable solids. The e.s.r. spectra of ethereal and alcoholic solutions of these radicals are interpreted in terms of the existence of three distinct types of ion pair. The results are independent of the solvent used in the initial preparation of the solid radical.
