Mössbauer and infrared spectra of six-co-ordinate complexes of some diorganotin(IV) halides with nitrogen donors

Abstract

The complexes R2SnX2L2(R = Ph; X = Cl, Br, I; L = py, ½bipy, ½dipyam, ½tripyam. R = Et; X = Cl, Br; L =½dipyam, ½tripyam) are considered to have ‘trans’ organic groups on the basis of Mössbauer spectra. The i.r. spectra of the compounds are discussed. It is suggested that deviations from 180° of the R–Sn–R angle are reflected in the absolute values of the quadrupole splitting parameters in the Mössbauer spectra. Ph2SnX2 py2, are considered to contain cis-halogeno-groups (Mössbauer data) rather than the trans-groups indicated by the i.r. spectrum.
