Reactions of n-hexane on Raney nickel at room temperature in the presence of adsorbed tritium

Abstract

The reactions of n-hexane on Raney nickel in the presence of tritium gas at 20° have been studied. Exchange of n-hexane with tracer quantities of tritium gas occurs rapidly at this temperature. Isomerisation of n-hexane to 2-methylpentane and methylcyclopentane also occurs but at very low conversions. The isomerisation reactions are thought to occur through a 1,2-diadsorbed methylcyclopentane intermediate.
