Hydrated and anhydrous nickel(II) complexes with amino-acids: bidentate and terdentate ligands

Abstract

When complexes of the type [NiL2(H2O)2](L = glycinate, α-alaninate, β-alaninate, α-amino-n-butyrate) are dehydrated, the resulting anhydrous complexes, [NiL2], are six-co-ordinate and contain terdentate ligands in which the carboxylate group is both bidentate and bridging. This structural change is discussed in the light of changes occurring in the electronic and vibrational spectra of the complexes. The dehydration of Zn(glycinate)2H2O is also discussed.
