Thermochemical and spectroscopic properties of transition-metal complexes. Part I. Cobalt(II) halide complexes with aniline, and o-, m-, and p-chloroaniline

Abstract

The heats of decomposition and the electronic spectra of the solid compounds CoLnX2(L = aniline, and o-, m-, and p-chloroaniline; n= 2 and 4; X = Cl, Br, and l) are reported. The ligand field parameters for these compounds have been derived and an attempt has been made to correlate variations in these parameters with differences in the heats of dissociation. The results of the thermochemical measurements made with a differential scanning calorimeter are compared with those obtained by solution calorimetry.
