Oxazole complexes. Part II. Oxygen-bonded complexes of 2-methylbenzoxazole with halides of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and zinc(II)

Abstract

The preparation is reported of some complexes of 2-methylbenzoxazole (L) with halides of cobalt(II), nickel(II), copper(II), and zinc(II). The complexes of cobalt(II) and zinc(II) are tetrahedral, of the type MX2L2(M = CoII, ZnII, X = Cl, Br, and l) containing O-bonded ligand. The nickel(II) complexes are of three stoicheiometries: (a) NiX2L (X = Cl and Br) which are octahedral and contain both bridging halogen and bridging ligand, and Nil2L which is tetrahedral with bridging ligand; (b) Nil2L2 which is tetrahedral with O-bonded ligand; and (c) NiCl2L3 which shows strong ferromagnetic interactions and is probably octahedral with O-bonded ligands. The copper(II) complexes prepared were of the type CuX2L, (X = Cl and Br), CuBr2L2, and CuCl2L3; alternative structures for these complexes are discussed.
