Raman spectra of crystalline complexes of indium(III) chloride with 2,2′-bipyridyl, 1,10-phenanthroline, pyridine, and pyrazine

Abstract

The Raman spectra of the crystalline complexes InCl₃ bipy_1·5, InCl₃ phen_1·5, MeCN, [Ph₄As][InCl₄ bipy], MeCN, InCl₃ py₃, [Ph₄As][InCl₄ py₂], and MCl₃(pyrazine)_1·5(M = In or Tl) have been measured and are compared with earlier i.r. spectral data. The new complexes cis-[InCl₂ bipy₂] PF₆,H₂O, cis-[InCl₂ bipy₂] ClO₄, and cis-[InCl₂ phen₂] ClO₄ have also been prepared and their i.r. (4000–200 cm.^–1) and Raman spectra recorded. The complexes of empirical formula InCl₃B_1·5, (B = 2,2′-bipyridyl and 1,10-phenanthroline) are believed to have the ionic structure [InCl₂B₂]⁺[InCl₄B]^–, and InCl₃ py₃, prepared in ethanol or methyl cyanide, is cis-octahedral.
