Binuclear molybdenum(III) complex halides. Part I. The [Mo2Cl9]3– species and compounds of stoicheiometry A3IMo2IIICl9

Abstract

The preparation of binuclear molybdenum complex halides of stoicheiometry A3IMo2IIICl9(A = Cs+ or Me3NH+) together with evidence for the [Mo2Cl9]3– species in solution, is described. In spectral and magnetic properties these resemble more closely the known tungsten rather than the chromium analogues. The existence of strong metal–metal interaction in the complex is indicated.
