Hydroxy-steroids. Part XII. Reactions of 5α-ergost-7-en-3-one

Abstract

Condensation of 5α-ergost-7-en-3-one with ethyl formate is shown to give the 2-hydroxymethylene derivative (68% yield). This readily reacts further, forming the bis-2,4-hydroxymethylene compound (75%).
