The conversion of some α-acetylenic ketones and the related αβ-dibromoketones into 3,5-diarylisoxazoles

Abstract

The structure of 5-α-naphthyl-3-phenylisoxazole is confirmed by syntheses from α-naphthyl phenylethynyl ketone, from α-naphthyl styryl ketone dibromide, and from 2-(α-naphthyl)vinyl phenyl ketone dibromide. The conversion of 4′-bromophenylpropiolophenone into to 3,5-diarylisoxazoles is reported, and the formation of 3,5-diarylisoxazoles from 4′-methoxyphenylpropiolophenone, and 4′-methoxy- and 4′-bromo-chalcone dibromides is re-investigated. The assignment of structures to 3,5-diarylisoxazoles is discussed.
