The mass spectra of amino-acid and peptide derivatives. Part II. Phthaloylamino-acids

Abstract

The mass spectra of a series of phthaloylamino-acids have been examined. Most of these give abundant molecular ions and prominent peaks due to loss of the carboxy-group. Subsequent fragmentation can occur by one or more of several routes, depending on the nature of the side-chain. Possible mechanisms of the fragmentations are discussed, and comparison is made with the behaviour of some simple N-alkylphthalimides.
