Adamantane chemistry. Part I. The synthesis of 1,2-disubstituted adamantanes

Abstract

Intramolecular free-radical reactions have been employed for the direct synthesis of a number of 1,2-disubstituted adamantanes. Also described is the synthesis of adamant-1-ylmalonic acid by treating adamantan-1-ol with diethyl malonate in the presence of boron trifluoride and hydrolysing the intermediate boron complex.
