Halogenation of porphin and octaethylporphin

Abstract

Porphin and β-octaethylporphin are halogenated notably more easily than is benzene. With octaethylporphin, chlorosulphuric acid acts as a chlorinating, not a sulphonating agent, presumably for steric reasons.
