Mass spectra of isomers. Part I. Cyclobutanes and cyclohexenes of molecular formula C10H16

Abstract

The mass spectra of a number of isomeric derivatives of cyclobutane and cyclohexene of molecular formula C10H16 have been examined and found to be similar. Metastable ions were observed for all processes except those for the formation of the ion m/e 68 and for cleavage of an ethylene molecule from the ring of the molecular ions. The differences in the intensities of the major peak in the spectra result from differences in stability of the molecular ions.
