Kinetic studies on 4d and 5d transition-metal complexes. Part II. The kinetics of the reaction of azidopentamminerhodium(III) perchlorate with nitrous acid

Abstract

The rate of disappearance of the azidopentammine complex ion in the presence of nitrous acid was studied spectro-photometrically at 25° and at low ionic strengths. The rate equation – [graphic omitted] [complex]= 4·02 × 102[H+][HNO2]+ 2·73 × 103[HNO2]2[complex] indicates that reactions occur between the complex ion and the nitrous acidium ion, and dinitrogen trioxide respectively. The reaction rate is enhanced by increasing the ionic strength and by the addition of chloride and bromide ions.
