Rotational analysis of bands of the B—X system of gaseous AgCl

Abstract

The rotational analysis of eight bands of the B—X system (νe= 31602.7 cm–1) of 107Ag35Cl has been obtained, using separated 107Ag and Cl in natural abundance. The 0—0 band of 107Ag37Cl has also been analyzed. The results for the ground state are in satisfactory agreement with those obtained from the microwave spectrum. The upper state has the character of a O+ state, and the internuclear distance re is 2.317 Å. A short extrapolation of the band origins leads to a value for a dissociation limit corresponding to a potential maximum in B O+ at about 95.8 kcal mole–1 above v= 0 in X1Σ+.
