Nitration of some 2,3-dihydro-1,4-diazepinium perchlorates

Abstract

5,7-Dimethyl- and 1,4,5,7-tetramethyl- 2,3-dihydro-1,4-diazepinium perchlorates have been nitrated. These are the first examples of attack on the 2,3-dihydro-1,4-diazepinium ring by a positively charged electrophilic species. Ultraviolet, infrared, and proton magnetic resonance spectra have been recorded.
