The production of alkyl 1,1,2,2-tetrafluoroethyl ethers from alkanols and tetrafluoroethylene can be carried out at atmospheric pressure with good yields by employing as reaction media the more polar aprotic solvents, especially dimethyl sulphoxide. Comparatively low concentrations of alkoxide catalyst are required.
