The bromination of 7β-acetoxy-5α-cholestan-4-one

Abstract

Bromination of 7β-acetoxy-5α-cholestan-4-one gave the 5α-bromo-ketone. This isomerised in acetic acid to a mixture of 3α- and 3β-bromo- 7β-acetoxy-5α-cholestan-4-ones. The orientations of the bromine atoms were determined chemically and the results found to be consistent with orientations derived from infrared, ultraviolet and optical rotatory dispersion studies.
