The senecio alkaloids. Part XIX. The isolation of chlorodeoxysceleratine
Abstract
A new alkaloid, chlorodeoxysceleratine, C18H26CINO6, isolated from Senecio sceleratus Schweickerdt, is described, and shown to be a diester of retronecine with sceleratinic acid. Conversion of chlorodeoxysceleratine to sceleratine, by replacement of the primary chloride with hydroxyl, failed due to preferential ether formation.
