Substituted pyrrolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines: their preparation from 3-amino-4-cyano-3-pyrrolines

Abstract

The reaction of 1,2-substituted-3-amino-4-cyano-3-pyrrolines with formamide, guanidine, and thiourea has given the corresponding 6,7-substituted-dihydropyrrolo[3,4-d]pyrimidines. Degradation products and various interconversions are described. The fully unsaturated pyrrolo[3,4-d]pyrimidine ring system is characterised for the first time.
