Quinolizidines. Part V. The stereochemistry of the oxoquinolizidines

Abstract

The optical resolution of 1-, 2-, and 3-oxoquinolizidine is described. Infrared- and ultraviolet-spectroscopic data indicate that the three ketones exist predominantly in the trans-fused conformations. Measurements of circular dichroism indicate that in iso-octane solutions at room temperature the trans-fused conformations represent about 90% of the conformational equilibria, and establish the absolute configurations of the ketones.
