Constituents of the higher fungi. Part IV. Involutin, a diphenylcyclopenteneone from Paxillus involutus(Oeder ex Fries)

Abstract

The isolation of 5-(3′,4′-dihydroxyphenyl)-3,4-dihydroxy-2-(p-hydroxyphenyl)cyclopent-2-ene-1-one from Paxillus involutus(Oeder ex Fries) is described. Properties and reactions of this compound leading to the assignment of its structure are described. The properties of this compound are compared with those of a related synthetic compound.
