Adducts of the halogenosilanes. Part II. Physical properties and structures

Abstract

The infrared spectra of adducts of the halogenosilanes SiHnX4–n(n= 0, 1, 2, or 3; X = F, Cl, Br, or I) with pyridine trimethylamine, and tetramethylethylenediamine are reported, and are used in conjunction with measurements of conductivity to deduce that the adducts of the bromo- and iodo-silanes are probably ionic, whilst those of the fluorosilanes are probably molecular or macromolecular. The n.m.r. and u.v. spectra of some of these adducts are also given.
