The absorption spectra of protactinium(IV) and uranium(IV) in aqueous hydrochloric acid

Abstract

Absorption spectra are reported for protactinium(IV) and uranium(IV) in hydrochloric acid solution (1–12M). Spectra of protactinium(IV) in hydrochloric acid solutions containing various amounts of sodium chloride and zinc chloride are discussed in relation to the previously published spectra of solutions prepared by zinc amalgam reduction of protactinium(V). The effect of zinc chloride on the spectra of uranium(IV) solutions is also described.
