The reactivity of fluorosulphuric acid with metals

Abstract

The reaction of fluorosulphuric acid with metals was surveyed qualitatively. The sexivalent sulphur in the acid can be reduced to SIV or to S° depending on the nobility of the metal. The latter reduction was confirmed by e.s.r. spectra of solutions. Further metals can be dissolved by anodic oxidation or by increasing the acidity of the acid.
