Studies on the possible interconversion of phenylhydrazones and phenylazoalkanes. Part III. Adipaldehyde bisphenylhydrazone

Abstract

Reagents which oxidise phenylhydrazino groups to phenylazo groups, e.g., oxygen and yellow mercuric oxide, convert adipaldehyde bisphenylhydrazone into trans-1,2-bisphenylazocyclohexane. The mechanism of this conversion has been investigated. Glutaraldehyde bisphenylhydrazone does not behave similarly.
