Total syntheses of racemic cis-anti-3-n-butyl-4,5,6,9-tetrahydrophthalide, trans-3-n-butyl-4,5,6,7-tetrahydrophthalide, and their hydrogenation products cis-anti- and trans-anti 3-n-butylhexahydrophthalides are described.
