Extractives from Guttiferae. Part II. The isolation and structure of four polyhydroxyxanthones in Symphonia globulifera L.

Abstract

Four xanthones isolated from Symphonia globulifera L., have been shown to be 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone (euxanthone), 1,5,6-trihydroxyxanthone, 1,3,5,6-tetrahydroxyxanthone, and 1,3,6,7-tetrahydroxyxanthone. Experiments leading to the synthesis of 1,7-dihydroxyxanthone are described.
