Interaction of electron acceptors with bases. Part XVII. The reaction of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene with tertiary aliphatic amines in some ketonic solvents

Abstract

Evidence based mainly on nuclear magnetic resonance spectra suggests that the deep red species produced by the addition of tertiary amines to solutions of 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene in certain ketones are sigma-complexes formed by the nucleophilic attack of the conjugate base of the ketone on 1,3,5-trinitrobenzene.
