New cyclopentadienylcarbonyl derivatives of molybdenum

Abstract

Reaction of an excess of the halogen with the compound [C5H5Mo(CO)3]2 yields the derivatives C5H5Mo(CO)2X3(X = Cl, Br, or I), which are diamagnetic and non-electrolytes. Reaction of the tribromides with pyridine and 2,2-bipyridyl results in complete expulsion of carbon monoxide, to produce the impure compounds C5H5Mopy2Br3 and C5H5Mo bipyBr3, respectively.
