Triphenylgermylpalladium complexes
Abstract
The complex (Et3P)2Pd(GePh3)2(II) decomposes at 97°, but is unstable in solution at –20°. The Ge–Pd bonds are cleaved by hydrogen chloride forming Ph3GeH and trans-(Et3P)2PdCl2, but when these products are heated together the palladium hydride, (Et3P)2Pd(H)Cl, is formed. The complex (II) reacts with 1,2-dibromoethane and also with hydrogen at 100 atm. and 20°. In the latter reaction only one Pd–Ge bond is cleaved, giving (Et3P)2Pd(H)GePh3. The anionic complex, K2[(CN)2Pd(GePh3)2] is obtained from complex (II) and KCN.
