Complexes of nickel(II) with sterically hindered heterocyclic ligands

Abstract

The preparation is described of the complexes NiL2X2(L = 2-methylbenzimidazole, X = Cl, Br, I, NCS; L = 3-methylisoquinoline, X = Cl, Br, I, NCS; and L = 2-methylbenzothiazole, X = Br, I, NCS). Spectral and magnetic measurements are reported, and the stereochemistries of the complexes deduced. The compounds NiL2X2(L = 2-methylbenzimidazole, X = Cl, Br, I; and L = 3-methylisoquinoline, X = Cl, Br) have tetrahedral geometry, Ni(3-methylisoquinoline)2(NCS)2 exists as octahedral and planar isomers, and the other complexes are planar.
