The acid-catalysed reactions of transition-metal complexes. Part IV. The acid-catalysed aquations of cis- and trans-ammine- and isothiocyanato-nitrobisethylenediaminecobalt(III) salts

Abstract

The acid-catalysed replacement of the nitro-group from cis- and trans-[Co en2(NH3)NO2]2+ and [Co en2(SCN)NO2]+ salts has been studied in concentrated aqueous sulphuric and perchloric acids. The relationship between the rate of hydrolysis and the acid concentration suggests that the reactions proceed via a unimolecular mechanism.
