The far infrared spectra of some co-ordination compounds of the thallium(III) halides

Abstract

The infrared specta (667–222 cm.^–1) of the complexes Ph₄AsTIX₄, TIX₃(1 pyridine)₂, TIX₃(2,2′-bipyridyl), TIX₃(1,10-phenanthroline), TICl₃(di-2-pyridylamine), and Tl(ethylenediamine)₂X₃(X = Cl or Br) have been recorded and the thallium–chlorine stretching vibrations assigned. The TlCl₄^– ion is considered to be tetrahedral in acetone and methyl cyanide solution. TlCl₃(py)₂ is shown to exist as Tl(py)₄Cl₂⁺ TlCl₄^– in acetone solution.
