Transition-metal–carbon bonds. Part VI. The formation of dichloro-(dodeca-2,6,10-triene-1,12-diyl)ruthenium(IV) from butadiene and ruthenium trichloride
Abstract
Butadiene reacts with ruthenium trichloride in 2-methoxyethanol at 90° to give dichloro(dodeca-2,6,10-triene-1,12-diyl)ruthenium(IV). This compound is analogous to the nickel compound postulated by Wilke to be formed when butadiene is catalytically trimerised by some nickel complexes. The reaction of the compound with pyridine, and the behaviour on pyrolysis, are discussed. Nuclear magnetic resonance data are given.
