About this collection

Professor Manuel Minas da Piedade and Professor José N. Canongia Lopes, University of Lisbon, Portugal

In the last twenty years, the interest on ionic liquids (ILs) has increased at an incredibly high pace, fostered by a variety of remarkable challenges that emerged in terms of both fundamental research and plausible technological applications. This collection, guest edited by Editorial Board Member Professor Manuel Minas da Piedadeand Professor José N. Canongia Lopes contains a selection of articles on ionic liquids published in RSC Advances since 2015. The selection includes both reviews and a combination of articles that illustrate the worldwide spread of ILs research and its many ramifications covering all twelve main subjects of the journal (Analytical, Biological, Catalysis, Chemical Biology and Medicinal, Energy, Environmental, Food, Inorganic, Materials, Nanoscience, Organic, and Physical). The fact that works on ILs are among the most highly cited in RSC Advances is highlighted. Recently published 2017 articles, while yet to be cited, seem to cover innovative themes with promising impact in the area and have therefore been included. It is hoped that this themed collection will provide an enjoyable and useful reading and will stimulate publication of more exciting work on ILs in RSC Advances.

All articles in this collection are free to access until 1st June 2017.

*Free access to individuals is provided through an RSC Publishing personal account.  Registration  is quick, free and simple.
