π-Coordination of ortho-benzoquinone: synthesis and structure of [{Ru242-o-C6H4O2)(CO)4(AsPh3)}2] and [Ru242-o-C6H4O2)(CO)42-I)I]

Abstract

The coordination polymer prepared by treating [Ru3(CO)12] with catechol can be cleaved with either a Lewis base or iodine to give products containing η4-ortho-benzoquinone ligands, two of which, [{Ru242-o-C6H4O2)(CO)4(AsPh3)}2] and [Ru242-o-C6H4O2)(CO)42-I)I] are structurally characterized by X-ray diffraction.
