Synthesis of 5,6-substituted benzimidazoles and their evaluation as potential intermediates in the anaerobic vitamin B12 biosynthesis pathway

We report a modular 3-step synthesis of two benzimidazoles which are putative vitamin B12 biosynthesis intermediates. We also demonstrate their role in producing functional cobamide cofactors and as substrates for the phosphoribosyltransferase CobT.

Nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction enabled annulations of nitrosoarenes, azomethines and alkenes

An unprecedented example of a nitroso-azomethine(ene) reaction, where azomethine acts as ene-component, mediated annulation of nitrosoarenes, azomethines, and alkenes to arylquinolines is reported.

About this collection

Kaleidoscope: A discussion meeting in chemistry is an annual gathering of Indian investigators working in various fields of in chemistry and allied areas. Started in 2014, this meeting is a platform for young investigators to discuss on contemporary research trends in chemistry and allied areas to identify and seek suggestions and collaborations among the peer group. The primary aim of this meeting is to provide a platform for the exchange of new ideas and fresh perspectives among chemists of all different fields of research.

Guest edited by Professor G. Naresh Patwari (Indian Institute of Technology Bombay), Professor Jyotishman Dasgupta and Professor Vaibhav Prabhudesai (both from Tata Institute of fundamental Research, Mumbai), this special collection highlights the exciting research by the speakers of Kaleidoscope-2023, the invite only meeting held from 06th to 09th July 2023 at YAAN Wellness Retreat, Udaipur, India. We hope you enjoy reading this collection.

Further details on the Kaleidoscope-2023 meeting including the participants and photographs can be accessed in our blog: https://blogs.rsc.org/cc/2024/06/25/chem-comm-publishes-themed-collection-on-kaleidoscope-meeting/
