Bringing upconversion down to the molecular scale

Abstract

After solid state and nanoparticles, discrete molecular and supramolecular systems displaying upconversion (UC) in solution have recently emerged in the literature. This frontier article intends to recall the roots of molecular UC and will try to draw perspectives to improve the actual state of the art.
