H-Bond Directed Photocatalytic Site-Selective α-C-H Functionalization of Alcohols with p-Quinone Methides

Abstract

An organophotocatalyzed method for α-C-H functionalization of alcohols is reported. This anthraquinone-catalyzed reaction is supported by an H-bonding interaction between the alcohol and the p-quinone methides, yielding a wide range of β-hydroxyphosphonates in good yield. Insights into the reaction mechanism are provided through control experiments.
