Effect of halogen and solvent on iron-catalyzed atom transfer radical polymerization

Precision synthesis of a fluorene-thiophene alternating copolymer by means of the Suzuki–Miyaura catalyst-transfer condensation polymerization: the importance of the position of an alkyl substituent on thiophene of the biaryl monomer to suppress disproportionation

The Suzuki–Miyaura coupling polymerization of PinB-F8T(3)-Br was accompanied by disproportionation, whereas that of PinB-F8T(4)-Br proceeded in a chain-growth polymerization manner to afford a well-defined fluorene-thiophene alternating copolymer.

Porous polycaprolactone and polycarbonate poly(urethane urea)s via emulsion templating: structures, properties, cell growth

Macroporous, emulsion-templated, linear poly(urethane urea) elastomers were synthesized from polyols (poly(ε-caprolactone)s or polycarbonates) and a diisocyanate. Growing cells adhered to the walls, spread, and penetrated into the porous structures.

About this collection

This collection, Synthetic Methodologies for Complex Macromolecular Structures in honor of Prof. Yusuf Yagci’s 70’s birthday, is Guest Edited by Filip Du Prez (Ghent University), Hatice Mutlu (Karlsruhe Institute of Technology) and Remzi Becer (University of Warwick). Prof. Yusuf Yagci has worked on various aspects of polymer synthesis during his long research career. He has developed several new synthetic methodologies to create functional macromolecules. He has benefited from ionic polymerizations, photo-initiated polymerizations, as well as controlled/”living” radical polymerization techniques. This collection is not limited to these topics and aims to to reflect the inspiring, creative and entertaining character of Yusuf.
