This themed collection guest-edited by Vera Regina L. Constantino (University of São Paulo), Fabrice Leroux ( Institut de Chimie de Clermont-Ferrand ) and Heloise O. Pastore ( University of Campinas), highlights recent and significant contributions in the field related to sustainability, its processes and materials and focusses on inorganic, organic and hybrid layered materials such as metal-organic frameworks, perovskites, carbon and graphitic intercalation compounds, clathrates and inclusion compounds.
Intercalation compounds are complex materials that can be considered at the intersection between chemistry, solid-state physics and materials science; interest in them and their possible applications is rapidly growing across multiple disciplines. This collection concerns innovative and sustainable applications of intercalation compounds, such as heterogeneous catalysis and biocatalysis, energy conversion and storage, heat storage, sensing, electronic, magnetic or optical devices, functionalized fillers for polymers, biomaterials and drug delivery systems, and environmental applications such as pollutant scavenging and degradation.
