About this collection

This focused issue contains perspectives from a workshop on nanoceria and original research reports of studies focusing on nanocerias. The workshop was organized and attended by researchers actively investigating the beneficial and untoward effects of nanocerias. The workshop focus was to try to understand the bases of these divergent effects. Perspectives of workshop panels that addressed what we know, identified data gaps, and recommended what needs to be determined about the chemical, biological, human health, and environmental aspects of nanoceria constitute the first part of this issue. Previously unpublished results of research studies of nanocerias, submitted in response to an open call, comprise the second part of this issue. This issue is the most comprehensive and current source of information on the chemistry, biology, and beneficial and untoward effects of nanocerias.
