[Au9Ag6(C[triple bond, length as m-dash]CR)10(DPPM)2Cl2](PPh4): a four-electron cluster with a bi-decahedral twisted metal core

We report a Au9Ag6 cluster characterized by a distinctive bi-decahedral core, formed through two decahedra sharing one vertex. This marks the first occurrence of a cluster of clusters constructed from decahedral units.

An insight, at the atomic level, into the structure and catalytic properties of the isomers of the Cu22 cluster

The structural isomers of Cu22 exhibit significant differences in the copper-catalyzed [3 + 2] azide-alkyne cycloaddition reaction (CuAAC), which offers a valuable opportunity to investigate the structure-function relationship of copper nanoclusters.

Construction of novel Ag(0)-containing silver nanoclusters by regulating auxiliary phosphine ligands

Two superatomic silver nanoclusters (Ag17 and Ag32) with similar outer shells were constructed by adjusting phosphine ligands, and their PL intensity and QY varied greatly because of the different surface rigidity.

Doping effect on a two-electron silver nanocluster

The addition of Ag(I) and Cu(I) by doping of a two-electron silver superatom, [Ag10(dtp)8], leads to the formation of [Ag11(dtp)8]+ and [CuxAg11−x(dtp)8]+, exhibiting a notable shift in the absorption spectrum.

About this collection

Guest edited by Professor Sukhendu Mandal (IISER Thiruvananthapuram, India), Professor Yuichi Negishi (Tokyo University of Science, Japan), Professor Di Sun (Shandong University, China) and Professor Anindita Das (South Methodist University, USA).

Atomically precise metal nanoclusters are novel materials that have the potential to address everyday needs from energy to health. Luminescent metal clusters can be used for effective and efficient energy harvesting and conversion technologies, while water-soluble luminescent metal clusters offer more efficient and personalized biomedical approaches. Furthermore, nanoclusters can be used as building units to form higher-dimensional cluster-assembled materials and can modulate the optoelectronic properties of desired device materials. To create a hierarchy of structures and applications, a fundamental understanding of the structure-property relationship at the atomic level is vital.

This special themed collection aims to look at new structures, photophysical, chemical and electrochemical catalysis reactions, and structure-property correlations within the themes of atomically precise metal nanoclusters. The collection covers new nanocluster structures, transformation reactions, luminescent materials, light-matter interactions, catalysis (photocatalysis and electrocatalysis), bioimaging and sensing, drug delivery, optoelectronic devices and new techniques for characterization.
